ALEGRIA empowers youth in need through arts and music education.
ALEGRIA's music program enables 60 students to study classical music intensively each week in La Sagrada Familia, the orphanage we partner with in Lima, Peru.

Studies have shown students who participate in the arts perform better academically and socially. Art and music education is vital for the formation of well-rounded youth, our future leaders. The youth we support come from very difficult circumstances, and the resources and programming we provide empower our students to imagine a new future.
Our youth orchestra is one of the top programs of its kind in Peru, and our young musicians go on to pursue higher education, against all odds.
ALEGRIA works to provide underserved youth with basic access to the arts and the ability to explore creative expression, while also developing strong social skills. We combine objective art principles with the fundamental tools necessary to become productive members of society.
In the past 5 years, ALEGRIA has served thousands of youth in need throughout New York City and Lima, Peru. We began by providing short-term, arts education and mentorship in La Sagrada Familia, an orphanage community situated in the shantytowns of Lima, Peru.
We currently solely invest in our youth orchestra program in La Sagrada Familia, empowering 92 young musicians to study classical music each week. Your support goes directly to fund musical instruments and repairs, sheet music, and our esteemed music teacher's salary.
Week-long introductory level workshops focused on basic art skills in multiple disciplines.
After School Programs
Weekly after school art intensives culminating in community enrichment projects.
Community Art Classes
Free youth art classes open to the community, taught by professional artists.
Over the past eighteen months, we have expanded our work to New York City. We have collaborated with four organizational partners to mobilize 21 professional volunteer teaching artist that have served over 100 youth across the Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx boroughs.
Since our inception in 2010, we have seen our initial work grow year over year. What began as one joy project serving 100 kids in La Comunidad de Niños Sagrada Familia, has expanded to bi-annual joy projects and community music program consisting of a 35-seat orchestra and a traditional Andean-Peruvian band serving over 300 youth annually.
Our work is possible only through the sustained efforts of generous volunteers, donors, and advocates. Consider giving the gift of art education by partnering with us in the following ways:
Volunteer your time to mentor a student, teach an art class, or join in on an upcoming community project.
Every penny matters. Monthly and single donations help us continue serving our students.
